This clever flour mill was water powered. The shaft goes down through the floor to a water wheel in the rushing stream. The stick on the side of the basket which touches the grinding wheel controls the flow of whole grain into the stone. As flour comes out from between the two grinding stones the upper stone moves down a bit and opens a valve at the bottom of the basket. |
