Drass

The truck broke down in Drass, known as one of the coldest inhabited places in the world. The people are Dards who originally migrated from Central Asia. The area is devoid of trees and very bleak. The pit in the background is where they were digging for the clay that the women carried in their baskets.

One of our drivers hitched and took the train to Delhi where he called the travel company asking for new main bearings for the engine to be sent out. When they arrived we managed to install them without pulling the engine. We just dropped the oil pan and worked from there.
